Why does the lacquer thinner SDS change with the brand?
Lacquer thinner is a blend of solvents and the blend changes with the brand. Klean-Strip Lacquer Thinner, revised Jan 24, 2022, lists a Category 2 flammable liquid, acute toxicity Category 3, reproductive toxicity Category 2 and single-exposure organ toxicity Category 1. Sunnyside Lacquer Thinner, dated May 28, 2015, lists acute toxicity Category 4, germ cell mutagenicity Category 1B and carcinogenicity Category 2, and names acetone, toluene, xylene, methyl ethyl ketone, methanol and ethyl acetate among its components. Savogran's Painters Lacquer Thinner lists H225, H304, H315, H319 and H360.
The sheets below carry dates from May 28, 2015 to Jan 24, 2022.

The Sunnyside sheet names these substances, and each has its own chemical page: Acetone (CAS 67-64-1), Toluene (CAS 108-88-3), Methyl Ethyl Ketone (CAS 78-93-3), Methanol (CAS 67-56-1), Xylene (CAS 1330-20-7).
What should I read first on my sheet?
The blend decides, so read Section 3 for the solvents. Sunnyside's names acetone, toluene, xylene, methyl ethyl ketone, methanol and ethyl acetate. Klean-Strip's lists a Category 2 flammable liquid, and Savogran's lists H225 and H360. Section 9 gives the flash point, and Section 8 any OSHA limit for the solvents the sheet names.
