I have an OSHA inspection (or I want to be audit-ready)

Run the audit checklist, fix the gaps, and get your program and training records in order.

Why this workflow

An OSHA inspection is usually unannounced, so 'getting ready' really means making the program you already have retrievable — not building it the morning of. This workflow walks the same path a compliance officer does: your self-audit score, the SDS gaps, and the records, so nothing is missing when someone asks.

29 CFR 1903.61910.1200(e)1904.40

When you’re done, you’ll have

  • HazCom Audit Checklist completed (score + fix list)
  • SDS gaps identified and RFI sent if needed
  • Written HazCom Program PDF
  • Training sign-in sheet(s) on file
  • SDS QR codes or access point ready for show

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get inspection-ready?

If your program already exists, 30–60 minutes to audit, close SDS gaps, and pull training proof. If the written program or records are missing, budget more — run the setup-from-scratch workflow first, then come back to this one.

What will the inspector ask to see first?

Usually the written HazCom program, then evidence that containers are labeled and that SDSs are accessible, then training records. Keep those four reachable within a few minutes — that's what 'inspection-ready' really means.

A records request came in — how fast must I respond?

Fast. For injury and illness records, 1904.40 requires you to provide copies to an authorized government representative within 4 business hours of the request. Employee access to the written program and exposure records is also required.

Planning aid only — not legal advice. Confirm every determination against the current OSHA standard and your State-Plan's rules.

Centralize SDS + proof pack, SDS on every phone

HazComFast keeps SDSs, labels, and training proof in one place, and loads the jobsite's SDS onto the crew's phones.
