EPCRA Tier II reporting is due

Handle community right-to-know: screen your storage against the thresholds, then build the Tier II inventory from your chemical list.

Why this workflow

EPCRA Tier II is a once-a-year community right-to-know filing that's easy to forget because it's an EPA rule, not OSHA — but the underlying chemical list is the same one your HazCom program already tracks. This workflow screens your storage against the thresholds and builds the report.

EPCRA §31240 CFR 370.1040 CFR 355

When you’re done, you’ll have

  • Storage screened against EPCRA Section 312 thresholds (10,000 lb / 500 lb EHS)
  • Tier II inventory worksheet built
  • Master chemical inventory updated to feed next year's report

Frequently asked questions

When is Tier II due, and to whom?

By March 1 each year, to your State Emergency Response Commission (SERC), your Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), and the local fire department — covering chemicals present above thresholds during the prior calendar year.

What amounts trigger reporting?

Generally 10,000 lb on-site for a chemical that requires an SDS, and the lower of 500 lb or the Threshold Planning Quantity for an Extremely Hazardous Substance (EHS).

Are common fuels like diesel or propane reportable?

Often yes — fuel tanks frequently exceed the thresholds. The threshold screener checks each chemical against its limit so you don't overlook a reportable tank.

Planning aid only — not legal advice. Confirm every determination against the current OSHA standard and your State-Plan's rules.

Keep one chemical inventory that feeds every report

HazComFast keeps your chemical inventory in one place so Tier II and SDS stay in sync.
