What this covers
Two label rules trip people up: shipped containers need the full six GHS label elements (1910.1200(f)(1)), while workplace/secondary containers have two compliant options under (f)(6). Safety data sheets must also be readily accessible to employees on every shift without barriers. This pack covers sizing, GHS and secondary labels, QR access, the secondary-container decision, and a storage compatibility check.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to label secondary (workplace) containers?
Yes, unless the immediate-use exception applies — the chemical is transferred from a labeled container and used by the same worker within the same shift, and the container stays under that worker's control. Otherwise the container needs a compliant workplace label.
What are the two workplace-label options?
Either (f)(6)(i): the full GHS elements (product identifier, signal word, pictograms, hazard and precautionary statements); or (f)(6)(ii): the product identifier plus words, pictures, symbols, or a combination that conveys the hazards.
Can safety data sheets be electronic instead of paper?
Yes. Electronic access (including QR codes to SDSs) is allowed as long as there are no barriers — employees must be able to get the SDS during their work shift, and there must be a reliable backup if the system goes down.
Planning aids only — not legal advice. Confirm every determination against the current OSHA standard and your State-Plan's rules.
