Transition to HCS 2024 / GHS Rev 7
Structured update: map old classes to new, update labels and program, refresh training proof.
Why this workflow
HCS 2024 aligns the standard with GHS Revision 7, changing some classifications, label provisions, and SDS content. The risk isn't a single deadline — it's letting reclassified products arrive with old labels while your program and training still describe the old system. This workflow updates them in order.

Frequently asked questions
Does every label have to change at once?
No — there are transition windows, and the dates differ for manufacturers versus employers and for substances versus mixtures. Look up the date that applies to your situation rather than assuming one cutoff.
What do I have to retrain on?
Any new or changed hazard information that reaches your workplace — new pictograms or categories, label changes, and SDS updates — must be covered with employees, and the training documented.
Who reclassifies the chemicals — me or the manufacturer?
Manufacturers and importers classify and supply the updated labels and SDSs. Your job is to flow those into workplace labels, update the written program, and retrain workers on the changes.
Planning aid only — not legal advice. Confirm every determination against the current OSHA standard and your State-Plan's rules.
