What OSHA Cites Your Trade For, FY2025 https://hazcomfast.com/osha-data-research/what-osha-cites-your-trade-for Source: U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA enforcement data, violation and inspection tables (apiprod.dol.gov/v4), extracted Oct 27, 2026. What is counted An item is one line of an OSHA citation: one standard, usually one paragraph, in one inspection. The files count items issued from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025 (FY2025). Deleted items are left out, and each item is counted once by inspection and citation number. Federal OSHA and the State Plans are counted together. An item counts under a federal number of 29 CFR part 1904, 1910 or 1926. Items that California, Washington, Oregon and Michigan cite under their own rule numbers count too, but only where a written correspondence pairs the state rule with a federal standard and that standard's part of the CFR covers the trade (column state_rule_items). A trade is the first four digits of the NAICS code on the inspection. A trade has its own files when it has 50 items or more. Files all-trades.csv every trade with one item or more, and in_study set to yes for the trades that have files all-trades-standards.csv every standard cited in each trade that has files state-rule-correspondence.csv each state rule counted, the federal standard it is counted under, the items it added and the items left out because the standard belongs to the other part of the CFR .csv one trade: summary, six-digit industries, standards, paragraphs, standards at sites with 20 or fewer employees, establishment size, and state rule items .json the same trade as the study page reads it Opening the files The CSV files are UTF-8 with a byte order mark, so Excel opens them directly with the right characters. The study page also gives each trade as an Excel workbook, with one sheet for each table of its CSV. Columns of .csv table trade, industry, standard, paragraph, small_establishment_standard, establishment_size, industry_standard or state_rule items citation items inspections inspections that carry one or more of those items share_pct share of the trade's items (paragraphs: share of the items under a federal number) serious_items items classified serious small_establishment_items items at establishments with 1 to 20 employees, as recorded on the inspection initial_penalties_usd sum of the initial_penalty field, the penalty as issued current_penalties_usd sum of the current_penalty field as recorded on the extraction date median_current_penalty_per_penalized_item_usd median current_penalty of the items whose current penalty is above $0 Limits These counts describe inspected establishments, not the whole trade. A citation is OSHA's allegation until it becomes a final order. States that cite their own rule numbers without a written correspondence are undercounted.
